IAFF Local 2195 Lee's Summit, Missouri

On July 15, 1999, the Lee's Summit Fire Department suffered its only line-of-duty death. Bryan C. Pottberg died while participating
in underwater dive training. The City of Lee's Summit donated land at 470 and Bowlin Rd to memorialize Bryan and a park has been erected
there.
For several years, the park sat barren. But in cooperation with the Lee’s Summit Parks and Recreation Department, the IAFF
Local 2195 changed that. Due to the diligent work of many, the park has become a beautiful memorial to Bryan and a wonderful place
for families to enjoy.
Local 2195 hosts an annual golf tournament to honor Bryan. Initial proceeds of over $50,000 were donated to the Pottberg Park. Now,
all proceeds go to scholarships in Bryan's name.
